Welsh experiences from both sides of the Falklands/Malvinas War.
Further Information:
In May 1982 a mother and father reflected on the loss of their son, Raymond Roberts, in the sinking of HMS Ardent: "'What went through your minds?' asked the reporter. 'I'll tell you honestly,' said Raymond's father through his tears. 'We thought about the parents of the young boys on the Belgrano. Four hundred of those have been killed.' 'Such a loss,' said Raymonds mother. 'Yes,' said his father. 'And I see it as a loss for nothing.'"
Translated for the first time, Ioan Roberts's vivid oral history records shared suffering, trauma, resilience and a common humanity that endured despite the colonial flag-waving and stubborn political opportunism of the Falklands/Malvinas war. It is a quiet hymn to family, community, kindness and comradeship to peace and the unconquerable courage and spirit of everyday people.
