Author Biography:
Jean Napier ARPS
Born in East London, Jean Napier has lived in the Snowdonia National Park since 1991 and the magnificent scenery is the main inspiration for her photography. Man’s influences on the landscape of Wales are a recurring theme in her exhibitions and photography books and her first book Rhosydd A Personal View – Golwg Bersonol (bilingual Welsh/English) depicts the remains of an old slate quarry in northern Wales with historical text.

Her primary motivation is to promote photography as an art form, to show the versatility and creativity of the photographic image; that it is not just a method of ‘recording’ moments. Her work has been exhibited throughout the UK, in the USA and Australia.

She runs photographic workshops with students of all ages and abilities throughout the UK and is a tutor for the Open College of Art. She holds a BA Honours Degree in Photographic Studies and is an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society.

Alun John Richards
A retired engineer who for many years was a guest tutor at the Snowdonia National Park Environmental Studies Centre, Plas Tan y Bwlch and sometime lecturer at Coleg Harlech Summer Schools.

A native of Swansea he is a past Chairman of the South West Wales Industrial Archaeology Society and of the Swansea Art Society.
Although his speciality is the Welsh slate industry on which he is an acknowledged expert, he also writes and lectures on a variety of aspects of industrial history.

He is also a vigorous defender of the landscape and environment of Wales.
